Frequent Questions About Hippo Expanding Glue
Will Hippo expanding glue bond plastic or rubber?
Hippo expanding glue will work well on many types of plastic. However, it is not recommend it for use on polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) plastics or any type of rubber.
Does Hippo expanding glue foam?
Hippo expanding glue expands whilst curing. The amount of expansion generally depends on the environment, but it could be up to 4x the amount applied. It is a moisture curing polyurethane glue, which requires water to start the chemical reaction that causes it to cure. As it dries carbon dioxide is released and this is what causes the glue to foam and expand. This expansion allows the glue to penetrate materials and create incredibly strong bonds.
How do I remove expanding glue from skin?
We strongly recommended that you wear gloves when working with expanding glue. If you do get it on your skin, first try removing it with a dry cloth, particularly if the glue is still tacky. Then wash with soap and cold water, using an exfoliator with a gritty texture will help. After drying apply some skin lotion. We do not recommend using alcohol, acetone, or any other solvents on your skin. If irritation occurs seek medical advice.
How to Use Expanding Glue
Expanding glue is moisture activated, so generally speaking applying it to damp surfaces means that it will expand more. Therefore, to keep your job neat and tidy, always use this type of glue sparingly and for high strength joints we recommend that you use clamps while it dries.
