Unlike caulk using a good silicone will provide flexible joints that prevent long term water damage from leaks and mold growth.

Generally most powder fillers require a ratio of about two parts filler to one part water, but you should always check the manufactureres instructions before you start mixing. Mix your filler in small batches by gradually adding water, and blend until you have a nice creamy consistency which allows you to build peaks without collapsing.
